Our Common Earth (665 words)

OUR COMMON EARTH

The Earth is a majestic and alluring place. It is a really unique planet since it is the only planet with the existence of life, this is possible because it is located in the biosphere, which is a sphere or area located around the sun at a perfect distance from it. The sun is a source of life for all of living things. Earth is divided into biotic and abiotic components. Abiotic components consist of non-living things– air, sunlight, water and soil; they divide the Earth into three spheres or systems – lithosphere (land), hydrosphere (water) and atmosphere (air). Biotic components consist of living things – animals and plants, they make the forth sphere or system – biosphere. Abiotic and Biotic components are always interdependent on each other in some or the other way.

Humans are a part of the biotic components, since we are living organisms and have evolved from the hominoid family of the great apes, hence we too are animals, more specifically moneys with no tail! The main difference is that we have developed and evolved into intelligent species. This thought leads us to dominate the world, hence all of us have taken the mother nature for granted, and by over using it, we have exhausted our resources –water, minerals, food producers (plants and animals) – for our selfish need and benefits. Hence we need to learn to become wary of our future and take care of mother nature.  Not only have we created a drift between us and other biotic components, but there is also a gap among us humans, due the difference in our living place and ancestors we have a variety of races with diverse cultures, festivities, beliefs, religions, physical features, etc. All these traits attribute to wars. We might have different goals but our provider is the same, hence for our growth we must unify and keep our differences aside.

Due to our common earth we are interconnected for our living hence we must live with compassion and insight. We as humans must grow together, instead of developing as nations we must grow as a human race, all our scientific progress must be share and instead of use it against each other. Also all of us must take care of nature since the water we drink, air we breathe, warmth we feel, food we eat is the same. So if we finish our fuel resources, plants and trees that provide us fresh air and oxygen, water, etc, we will be unfavorably affected. Due to each and every individual, who doesn’t understand our grave situation and love nature, the entire world is suffering from global warming, climate change, air, water and land pollution, extinction of several species of plants and animals, new diseases, drought and famine, etc. All these natural causes affect humans and lead to malnutrition, poverty, unemployment, healthcare problems, poor sanitation, no provision of education and other innumerable problems. Due to the dwindling environment and its resources, there is a competition amongst us with has lead to wars.

So to end this note, I would like to you all to rethink your actions, stop differentiating each other and waging wars, save and nurture mother nature by using water wisely, using eco-friendly vehicles, stop cutting trees, stop killing animals and every other thing that harms our earth. We might not gravely suffer but our successors will, so leave a healthy earth, the way we got it or even better, for our children. Remember -‘Sustainable development is that which meets the needs the present, without compromising the ability of the future generations to meet their needs’ and ‘The Earth doesn’t belong to us, we belong to the earth’. Our mother earth might not be able speak, but she gives us signs, if we are not acutely aware of these signs and be prudent she will show her full wrath by our destruction, so don’t test her. Instead thank her for her for your birth and upbringing, and for her tolerant nature.
